Group and Individual Tutoring Programs

Group and Individual Tutoring ProgramsWhen you are searching for the best possible tutor for your child, there are several options to choose from. Some of the available options include group tutoring vs. individual tutoring, private tutoring vs. public tutoring, and specialty tutoring programs. The type of program you select will depend on the needs of your child and what is best for your child's learning process.Since so many children need specialized tutoring, a private tutor may be best for you and your child. You can receive the best in program and teacher interaction. Private tutoring requires a lot of time and dedication to your child's needs. If you have little time to devote to your child, a private tutor could be a good option for you.Another common program is group tutoring. Group tutoring is perfect for children who need assistance with math, reading, and writing. It is also perfect for children who are struggling academically. Group tutoring is often used as a supplementa l class. As your child progresses in school, you may find that you need tutoring again. At the beginning of each school year, a lot of children are only able to attend school for a few days, so their lack of success in school does not affect their learning process as much as if they were homebound all year. This is one of the reasons group tutoring is popular. Group tutoring allows them to participate in a daily curriculum, as well as weekly and monthly lessons, as needed. If you have more flexibility in terms of scheduling and cannot fit regular lessons into your schedule, then you may prefer private tutoring. In this case, you can choose a tutor who will meet with your child at different times and also from different locations. You can receive personalized attention for your child by choosing the right tutor. Private tutoring services provide group and individual tutoring. Private tutoring has also grown in popularity over the past decade. You can schedule regular lessons and in some cases have your child take part in a trial session for private tutor before committing to a one-on-one lesson. This way, you will get an idea of the teacher's ability and interest level. The best private tutors can also complete a self-test to see how well your child has learned during the tutoring session. Most students find private tutor to be an effective learning tool for their own education. They know that they will receive the best education possible, while getting their children prepared for further schooling. Private tutoring may also be used as a pre-service learning experience for younger children, so they learn better at home before starting school.Your child's needs should be considered when searching for a private or group tutoring service. You can find the best tutoring program by choosing the best teacher. Ask for a testimonial from previous students or teachers, to be sure that the tutor is qualified.

Adding Negative Numbers

Adding Negative Numbers Negative numbers are the numbers which are less than zero and which can be represented on a number line. On a number line negative number are represented left to 0 like -1, -2, -3, -4, -5, -6 etc. Negative numbers can be extended endlessly on a number line left to 0, it follows that we can represent each and every negative number by some point on this line. For instance, starting from 0 and moving to its left, a point after 750 units, represent the integer -750. Thus each and every integer can be represented by some point on this number line. Examples of negative numbers: - -1, -5, -3.8, -8/9, -0.5 Comparing the negative numbers: - Example: - Which number is less than -5. a) -1 b) -2 c) 0 d) 10 e) -10 Solution: - On a number line, every number left to a particular number will be less than that of a number like , -10, -9, -8, -7, -6 are less than -5 because all these numbers are left to -5 whereas all the numbers right to -5 will be more than -5. -4, -3, -2, -1, 0, 1, 2, 3 are more than -5. Clearly we can observe that -1, -2, 0, 10 are right to -5. So -10 is less than -5 because -10 lie to the left of -5 on a number line. Examples of Adding negative numbers: - Add the following: - a) (-1) + (-5) + (-2) b) (-3) + (-4) Solution: - a) (-1) + (-5) + (-2)= -1-5-2 =-7 b) (-3) +(-4)= -3-4 -7

Part II How to Conjugate Stem-Changers in Spanish

Part II How to Conjugate Stem-Changers in Spanish Suzy S. Struggling with Spanish grammar? As youre learning how to conjugate verbs in Spanish, youll need to watch out for stem-changers! Heres an overview from Fairfax, CA tutor  Jason N... If you’re reading this now, it probably means you are well-aware of the importance of conjugation to use verbs to describe situations and events. And as youre learning a new language, like Spanish, this is essential to your progress! Conjugations enable us to form coherent sentences that specify the ‘who’ and ‘what’ of a particular action. This article  is part II  of a series of blog posts where Ill explain how to conjugate Spanish verbs so if you havent read that first one yet, do so now. If you have already read the first article, great! Now that you know about to conjugate basic verbs in present tense, next  Ill show you how to take your conjugation skills to the next level. This involves learning stem-changing verbs in Spanish. In all three conjugations of verbs (with ar, er, or ir endings) there are some verbs whose vowels change within the stem. Let’s go through some key vocabulary first. The word infinitive refers to the verb before it’s conjugated. The stem  of a verb usually refers to the first syllable of the verb in its infinitive form. Consequently, a stem-changing verb is when the stem changes from its infinitive to its conjugated form. The beginning three steps are the same as with the normal verbs: To understand stem-changer conjugations, we want to focus here on the stem’s vowel. These stem-changes occur in all of the five conjugation variants except nosotros or ‘we’ form (and vosotros if you’re in Spain), which both maintain their regular stem. There are  six types of stem-changers in Spanish: e ? i o ? ue e  ? ie i ? ie u ? ue* o ? hue *Note: We only implement the stem-change (u  ?  ue) in the verb jugar (to play) as most verbs with a ‘u’ in their stem aren’t stem-changers. How to Conjugate e  ? i Stem-Changers in Spanish Let’s go through the most common three. In this  example, the stem of the verb pedir (to ask for) is ped-. The key vowel here is the ‘e.’ The ‘e’ changes to an ‘i’ when it’s conjugated in the present tense, except for in its nosotros form. Pedir  (e ? i) Yo Pido Tú Pides Él/ella/usted Pide Nosotros Pedimos Ellos/ellas/ustedes Piden As you can see, the ‘e’ in the stem ped-  changes to an ‘i’ in all the five person variants besides nosotros. Not too difficult, right? How to Conjugate o  ? ue  Stem-Changers in Spanish Let’s try  another common one. Just like the ‘e’ in pedir changes to an ‘i,’ the ‘o’ in poder, from the stem pod-  changes to ‘ue,’ except, as always, in its nosotros form. Poder  (o ? ue) Puedo Puedes Puede Podemos Pueden How to Conjugate e  ? ie  Stem-Changers in Spanish Another frequent stem-changer is the ‘i’ to ‘ie.’ Let’s take, for example,  querer: Querer  (e ? ie) Quiero Quieres Quiere Queremos Quieren Lets practice with the following verbs: Medir (e  ? i) To measure Colgar (o  ?  ue) To hang up Cerrar (e  ?  ie) To close Aside from stem-changing verbs, many present-tense verbs have an irregular conjugation in their Yo form, in that it doesn’t follow basic tendency to end in ‘o’ at the end of the word after removing the ending (-ar, ir  or er), and instead ends in go. For example, hacer (to do or to make) in its Yo present form: o ? go Instead of conjugating hacer in its Yo  form as haco, we say, hago  to mean, “I do or make.” This is the same with venir and seguir. Spanish Verb Conjugation Practice Stem-Changers Now, practice with the following verbs in their ‘yo’ form: Not sure if youve quite got it? A Spanish tutor can help you flesh this out. Stay tuned for Part III when I show you about to conjugate verbs in their past tense. Post Author: Jason N. Test-Taking Tip How to Review an Exam Before You Take It

Test-Taking Tip How to Review an Exam Before You Take It We all know the feeling; sitting there anxiously awaiting the teacher to come by your row of desks and hand that stack of tests to the person in front. You watch that stack get smaller and smaller as it gets closer to you until finally, you have it. Thoughts are racing through your mind about how well you studied that last set of notes or whether you should have looked into thatmath tutoring. The second you place that exam in front of you and pass the rest of the pile to the student behind you, a deep breath is taken and you are ready to dive in. Nervous or confident, you just want to get started so you can finish quickly and get the heck out of there. Diving right in isnt always a good thing, however especially in this case. Immediately scribbling away from question to question in numerical order can sometimes hurt you. Why? Because you have no idea what lies ahead on the exam. For all you know, the first ten questions could be the hardest and the remaining twenty are right up your alley. But if you waste the first half hour of the period working through those first ten, you will have missed out on a great deal of time that could have been spent excelling on the simpler ones. You may also want to check out this test-taking tip: how to clock out other test takers. The more specific concept of time management, though, is a different discussion. Reviewing the entirety of an exam before starting in on it is important for a number of reasons. Appropriating Your Comfort Level:Regardless of the outcome, youre going to be content with the fact that you scanned the entire thing first. Itll result in youa)knowing the whole thing is going to be a breeze,b)feeling the bear of a challenge coming on, orc)accepting the balanced mixture of good and bad that is most tests. Even if it ends up making you more nervous, at least youll know upfront rather than gradually getting more freaked out as the minutes pass. Getting continuously worked up as you go page by page will only lead to more time being spent agonizing over your next steps. By getting a solid idea of what is expected of you first-thing, youll have the correct attitude needed to approach and work through the test adequately. Knowing Where Hints/Help Can Be Found:Some teachers overlook the fact that accidental clues have been worked into their exams as they wrote them up. For instance, the factual context given for one question may be the answer you need for another question, or at least a really good tip-off. The answer to a true/false question that youre absolutely confident about could help you determine the information needed to solve another problem. Of course, giving the test a quick initial run-through is the most efficient way to spot these unintended hints. Sure, you can always discover them little by little as you go through the test in order, but that can involve a lot of flipping back pages and erasing scantron bubbles that you just dont have the time for. Become familiar with which questions have details in common before you begin so you know the areas to check as you go along. Avoid having to do the search later and identify these small open-book substitutes immediately. Determining Your Method of Attack:We touched on this with the time management mention, but this is in more direct reference to the order you will follow. Why follow the questions in the order they were given just because they happened to be written out that way? All that matters is that in the end, you have completed them all to your best ability. Honestly, most people cannot ace a test by doing everything in the given order. If your strength is short answer questions, jump into those and give them all youve got before you do anything else. If multiple choice is your weakness, save it for last. If youre working through a particular section whether its your strong suit or your flawed area and you get stuck on one question, move onto the next one and come back! Whenever you find yourself taking slightly more than the average amount of time on one problem, move on. Maneuver around the test as efficiently as you can within sections, bouncing between sections, etc. Treat it like a puzzl e where you look at everything youve got and put together the most obvious pieces first. Eventually, you will be left with only those questions, or pieces, you were stuck on (which hopefully wont be too many) and youll have the remaining time to dedicate solely to them. A successful plan of action is truly the way to go if you want to draw up this kind of perfect progression. You may also want to check out these tips on how to mentally prepare for test day. So, before you start racing your pencil down those pages, calm yourself and momentarily review what youve got ahead of you. Of course, remember not to spend too much time on this preparation practice. Make sure you do not get too distracted and end up throwing away more time by overly-planning your attack method. Keep this time short and useful; the beneficial aspects will roll right in.

Massive Teacher Layoffs Imminent

Massive Teacher Layoffs Imminent The ripple effects of the economic recession are continuing to surge through education as many public high schools are preparing to layoff tens of thousands of teachers nationwide, according to a recent article from The Washington Post. These layoffs will result in larger class sizes and some schools will be forced to cut certain programs and classes. California, Illinois, Michigan, New York and New Jersey are likely to be hit the hardest with the most faculty layoffs. Congress is currently considering implementing a $23 billion bailout program for the public high schools to slow or eliminate most of the layoffs. This bill would be similar to the stimulus package that was implemented last year. The Obama administration is pressing hard for the passage of this bill. It estimated that layoffs could be anywhere from 100,000 to 300,000, unless congress implements a bailout program. This news comes in the wake of Obamas campaign to foster strong education at traditionally low-achieving schools. His efforts could prove futile if teachers are continuously laid off, class sizes increase and many educational programs are cut. In April, The American Association of School Administrators reported that nearly two thirds of all public high school administrators cut positions this year. The report also stated that 90% of high school administrators plan to make cuts for next school year. Of the 453 administrators surveyed, 62% were anticipating raising class sizes, 34% were considering eliminating summer school and 13% were contemplating a four-day school week. The threat of teacher layoffs can be averted; however, there are usually other deep cuts that will occur. Some high schools are cutting back in their cafeterias or even cutting days out of the academic calendar all in efforts to save money. The National Education Association, which is a teachers union, estimated that 26,000 teachers are at a high risk of being laid off in California, 20,000 in Illinois, 13,000 in New York, 8,000 in Michigan and 6,000 in New Jersey. These budget cuts have sparked outrage among students, parents, and many employees at public high schools. Americas public education system already lags behind that of other countries. Parties are growing increasingly concerned that students are paying the ultimate price of the education cuts by not getting the proper education needed to succeed at higher levels. Even Hollywood is joining the movement and speaking out against education cuts. Actor Megan Fox created a short video protesting the budget cuts in California and Governor Arnold Schwarzeneggers decisions regarding the budget cuts.
